And they are learning.....

Okay. Sometimes we all wonder..."What the heck am I doing homeschooling..." Then your kids say things that you go....."I know exactly what I'm doing....loving my kids, giving them a love to learn, teaching them about their world through the eyes of our Lord. AND---Despite bad days......I LOVE THIS PRIVELEDGE."

Today....or rather tonight....this was the scence unfolding word for word in front of me as we cleaned up the kitchen and then I made two batches of banana chocolate chip muffins.

Context: Luke was mixing up ice tea at the sink, I was washing dishes. He said...
"Deus, Deus means God. Did you know that? Yup, Deus means God in Latin"

at the same time....Tayler was on the computer yelling to me....(Literally)

"Mom, what is the abbreviation for Turkey?" "Turkey the food or turkey the country" I replied "Turkey, like Istanbul" She said. I said "What are you doing?" "Just trying to locate the Hagia Sophia on Google Earth"

A few minutes later.....Luke is lying on the family room floor w/a book entitled "The Oceans Atlas" He is looking at pictures in the book and talking out loud to himself....

"lets see....hmmmmmmm these must be the Alps. Yup, these are the alps" Let me remind you...he was looking in a OCEAN atlas. :)

Well, Luke was most definately NOT looking at the alps...but hey...he knew the alps were a mountain range! He was seeing the Mid-Atlantic Ridge which is kind of an underwater mountain range!

So as I mixed up my muffins, I was smiling to myself, not because I am a great teacher....You can wipe that idea out of your mind right now. But I do love my kids, I love to see them learn...and even though so many times I don't think anything I've said or done is getting through....anything from co-op is being remembered....they spend 25 minutes talking about the topics of the prior weeks school. Not to me, not to impress me, not for homework. It was just free time after dinner doing what they wanted. I love my job!

That is too cool. We're only a week and two days in, and we've had our times of frustration. Your post is an encouragement to me, and a reminder of why we homeschool. Thanks.
