I say "unoficially" b/c it may not look like it, but the window was the first step.
We've been tossing around trying to do our kitchen for many, many months. Well, actually almost exactly 2 years ago. We had a wonderful missionary couple stay w/us almost two years ago exactly, during our missions conference. Kelly (the wife) was an architect, and messing around right before they left, she took the room dimensions of our kitchen/dining room. A few weeks after they left, she mailed us a little package w/many different layouts for our kitchen!! Ever since then, our ideas have been formulating. It is very involved as many of you know from going through it yourselves! For us, its a process, primarily b/c Blair will be doing almost everything. He is even going to be attempting, (well, not attempting, he is) builing the cabinets.
The remodel involves removing a wall currently dividing our dining room from our kitchen and making our "breakfast area" (aka..eat-in-kitchen area) actual cupboards and counters. Hence, we are moving our kitchen 6 feet to the North and enlarging our dining room by a couple feet. We will be almost tripling our kitchen size, which is very much welcome now that I have 2 budding bakers (Tayler's specialty is banana bread and Natalies is Pumpkin Bread) and to aid w/homeschooling and the kids' bodies getting large enough that we needed more eating room. Both our eat in kitchen area and dining room were very small. Now we will have one large eating area and one large kitchen.
Moving this window was our first hurdle. It had to be made smaller as to not interfere w/the countertop that will be there. So...stay posted for more work in progress. It will take us months and months to do, as those of you who know us, we try to pay cash for everything. We may (we will) go w/o cabinet doors for quite some time before we can swing it, but...we will have space and lots of countertops. Im placing a guess, that it could be up to a year or so. But I am very thankful for a husband who is willing to do this for our family and not get into debt. (although I don't always feel like that, especially when my "want" mode takes over) I truly am thankful for his wisdom, if I was left to it, we'd be in debt, Im sure!
So hope you enjoy following our process. He has two weeks off back to back in November, so we will really be trucking then! So stay tuned!
