Homeschool Conference Review

I am back from the conference to a unbelieveably busy week. I was treated to such great speakers as; Ken Ham w/Answers in Genesis, Susan Wise Bauer (Well Trained Mind), Jay Wile, (Apologia) and my favorite, Norm Wakefield of Elijah Ministries. I will post a little about the conference and what it meant to me. Rather than spend time writing another post, I will cut and paste what I posted to my TOG Homeschool group at our church, after someone posted wondering how the weekend was. Here was my reply.

For me, it was a weekend not so much about homeschooling. The Refiners fire, becoming my souls desire, seemed to be more on God's menu for my hungry soul.
There is an inner longing within me hungering and thirsting for more
of Him. I got more of a glimpse of my Father this weekend that stirred
me towards Christ and not necessarily home schooling. Yes, I was
encouraged in homeschooling but in such a radically different way
than I thought I was going to get.

Lovingly and graciously (notice my sentence opener w/an -ly word--Yeah IEW!)
Jesus reminded me through a couple speakers, regarding my focus. One
speaker in particular spoke of Anchoring the Storms of life. The challenge
or ultimate goal, was..."Preparing our children for Eternity" Something
that challenged me this weekend was Hebrews.

One speaker stated. "Life is a series of storms/incidents sent from
God for the purpose of revealing the POWER of God in Christ. If we show
our kids a powerless Gospel they will have a powerless foundation
which equals powerless living. WOW.

The below took us through fleshing this out to our children in everyday life and situations. Mostly the category 1,2 storms that Jo was referring to. You know the spilled milk, late husband, unkind words from brothers and sisters....the
small things that we (or at least I) don't deal with spiritually.
It's "knock it off," "what have I told you about sharing" the slight
grumbling about our husbands tardiness or lack of...anything'--Here
are the key components

1.Who Jesus Is (Hebrews 1:1-3)
2. What Jesus Is (Hebrews 1:8)
3. Where Jesus is Now (Hebrews 1:3, 7:23-25)
4. What Jesus is doing now
5. What He has purposed? (Heb. 10:39, 11:1-2)

Norm Wakefield walked us through Hebrews and showed how God promises
Grace and Mercy to those who persevere in our faith if we DRAW NEAR
and HOLD FAST to God. We have to DO something with what we believe.
Hebrews 3:12-14 Storms reveal the reality of our faith.

I am thankfull to have been made less and God be so much more this weekend. What I find so funny is the reason I went was for encouragement to perservere w/homeschooling and what I came away with is a different kind of perserverence. Perserverence for the sake of the Gospel. God is so good to me.
