Michigan History

We spent a rainy day driving to Lansing to the Michigan Capitol Building and Michigan Historical Museum.

Both places were just terrific. We had just finished a study of the branches of government in homeschool and it was great for the girls to see this first hand.

The Michigan Historical Museum was fantastic. I am excited to go back there again w/all the kids when we study the Statehood of Michigan. I'm so glad I homeschool, b/c there is so much I didn't pay attention to in school as a kid. Either that or I didn't retain much then. It is just a blessing to teach the kids and teach myself. My understanding of how God's hand is in all of life is so much greater as a parent. I just pray God can help me direct my understanding to the kids at a young age, so that they don't have to go all through their youth years with the mindset of "What difference does all this make anyway?" But rather a comprehension of how Great our God is and how His plan for the ages has been moved along through every course of the past.

What a pretty state capitol building! I'm glad we live close to our state capitol too, so we can visit often. We usually take the kids to the capitol at Christmastime to see the giant tree. I agree it's great to teach the kids at home and away from home.
